So I realized that today marks one month since the day I left the US for this incredible journey. I seriously cannot believe it's been a month here. I've done so much but still feel like there's tons more to do. One thing I'm really excited for is volunteering and talleres, or workshops with other students.
I will be volunteering as an English Language Assistant teacher at La Asunción elementary school. I'm super excited for it because I get to do so many things: work with kids, teach, work in general, and best of all, improve my Spanish! They said we might get to choose the subject, depending on the teacher. There's different subjects like reading, sports, math, and music to name a few. And of course, I hope to get put into the music section that way I can hopefully play the piano once in a while. Four birds with one stone: volunteering, playing my favorite instrument, practicing Spanish, and working with kids. Tomorrow morning a group of us are meeting at the SOL office and heading to the elementary school. I don't think I want to be a teacher honestly, but I love working with kids and I would definitely like to get some volunteering under my belt, and this will be a great experience on top of a great experience.
The talleres are workshops hosted by the university. Some workshops offered are flamenco dance, flamenco guitar, painting, wine tasting, yoga, self defense, and so much more. My top three choices are yoga, shiatsu massage, and photography. I need some way to stay in shape here so hopefully I'll get into yoga, but if not, I'm completely okay with the other two and I'll try to get runs in at least once or twice a week.
Today I found out my test results.....
PASSED INTENSIVES!
I had no doubt really, I think I was just extra nervous because I really was not feeling well that day. I looked at my results and I think I could have done better, but what's done is done, and what matters is I passed the test and passed the class. Actual classes start this Wednesday, we were supposed to get our schedules posted earlier this afternoon but no one has gotten any information so hopefully we get that ASAP. I already know I'm in Latin American Culture and Civilization, I'm really excited for that, I just have no idea when it is. I hope it's not at night. I really hope I don't have night classes. I don't focus on school well after 1400.
This Friday we go to the Alhambra! I am unbelievably excited because it is the absolute one thing I've wanted to do the most since I've been here and it's finally approaching. Then Saturday is part 2 of Nerja! It's already really cold so I highly doubt many of us will decide to swim, but I'm excited to go again and maybe find different places to take pictures in. And definitely buy some souvenirs haha.
Well that's all for this week. I'll leave you guys with a picture of Gloria and Mateo, the cuties we have the privilege of seeing weekly.
