So I tried to blog yesterday but Weebly was being dumb and wouldn't let me make a post yesterday. But yesterday was the best, most exhausting, most exhilarating day that I've had here.
It started off very early, about 0630. My roommate and I woke up, got ready, grabbed bananas, and headed to the meeting place for the hike. It was a 30 minute bus ride from the city to Monachil, a cute pueblo that was the starting point of the mountain that held our actual destination, Los Cahorros. To get to Los Cahorros, we had to walk up a road from Monachil that led to our actual starting point. Kind of complicated to explain, or maybe I'm just not thinking of the phrasing hard enough haha. Either way, we had to hike to get to the actual hike.

As soon as we got into the Cahorros area, I was astounded by the scenery. I had never done a hike quite like that deep in a mountain range, and this hike just cemented my love for hiking even more. I just want to have more adventures like this. The mountains, rocks, waterfalls, and the almost dangerous trek through was invigorating and astounding. Plus going so early in the morning meant less people, more peace, and a view of the sunrise inside the mountain gorge that was absolutely breathtaking.
This picture above shows our formation through half of the hike. We had to walk single file because to our left (and our right on the way back) was a shallow creek/river and our right (left on the way back) were rock walls that rock climbing enthusiasts could climb. There were points where the rocks were so close to the edge of the walkway that we would have to grab handrails drilled into the rocks and pass through by moving ourselves from handrail to handrail. And there were other points where the rocks hung over the walkway so we would have to sit down on the edge of the walkway and scoot our butts or crawl under the rock wall. So much fun getting down and dirty for parts of this hike! (:
In this picture you can see people in the beginning of the line with their legs hanging off the edge. This was one of the points where the rock jutted out so much that we had to sit and scoot ourselves through. And those of us with backpacks had to put them on our laps otherwise they would get caught on the rocks.
The hike only lasted 3 hours, but it felt the it lasted all day. I was unbelievably exhausted when we got home. We got home around 2, showered, and took a wonderful siesta. Kyla passed out from 3 to 5 and I passed out from 5-7 because I had showered after lunch and didn't want to sleep with my hair wet. After siesta, Kyla and I went out with Tess, Maddy, Sharina, and Matt to a Mexican restaurant. I didn't have my hopes too high as I've only had bland (but still delicious) food here. I have to say, Cocina Mexicana is a pretty good restaurant to eat at if you're missing some Mexican flavor.
After Cocina, we went to a bar where they got drinks, then across the street from that bar was La Chupiteria, the shots bar we've gone to often. I actually tried a shot from there, I said no about five times before Tess finally convinced me. I took one of the soft shots. It was coffee, cinnamon Schnapps (I think, or some sort of cinnamon liquor) topped with whipped cream. Not gonna lie, I had to hold my breath before I took the shot because I could smell the liquor. Then it went down wrong and I almost coughed it out. It took a while from me to swallow it, and I didn't want to cause the cinnamon was horrible, but I did it! So be proud (or not proud) of me for swallowing a shot! The largest amount of alcohol I've ever taken! Haha.
And no, I had no after effects. Didn't feel different, nothing happened, and Kyla and I got home safely.
In comparison, today has been a lazy Sunday. Kyla and I went out with Maddy and Tess and they showed us a park that's pretty close to our house and I can finally start running again and getting in shape. Thank goodness! Well everyone, have a great day, ¡hasta luego!
